For all those who follow my story, I was in court yesterday for the first time representing MYSELF! wow. It was great. I did not choke, I was not crazed. Just calm, collected and survived it. At the end of the session I was referred to two programs which I want to share with my readers
1. Focus on Kids: offered through the Jewish Community Center. Ran by Heni Schwartz LCSW and phone is 203.389.5599 ext 111.
2. Dr. Lou Tufano in Branford CT : phone: 203.483.5432
Both of these programs and or people help in high conflict divorce where communication is extremely hard between parents. It allows parents to learn how to communicate in some fashion. Maybe it means a mediator, maybe it is a email system, maybe it is a face to face meeting with a therapist, however, the focus for both of these is the CHILDREN. Making sure they are the main concern and that they will benefit from the communication.
I just wanted to share this with you , as Court is not always the answer. Court can not force nor make it easier for us to communicate with other people. Sometimes you have to look outside the fighting walls of justice to find the answer.
I hope this information can help someone else. I am positive that it will help me!
thanks and have a great friday!

Wine Tasting

For anyone not able to attend, Tony from Shoreline Wines in Guilford CT, hosted the event with 6 great wines.
We concentrated on 3 whites and 3 reds to prepare us for the holidays. The wines chosen were great accents to our food choices during this time of year.
The one called "Earthquake" was a favorite of the red drinkers. A great wine for with or with out food or a hostess gift.
The participants tried the six wines, were educated on the tastes, the legs, the fruits, and of course what foods to serve with each. We tried a price range of 12.00 a bottle to 50.00 a bottle.
A great time, laughs and education! We hope to have Tony back again.
For more information or feedback , send me an email at jules@dipnight.com!
Thanks and have a great day!
Supboena......now we are talking!
To all my friends and dipsters who have chosen to go "pro se" for any reason...I have some procedural information I would like to share with you.
I have been served with a modification of child support and alimony. Which of course, I am sure it is not an increase. (LOL)
I believe and know of information which will proved beneficial to me in the arguing of this case.
I phoned the Clerk's office and found out that one appearing as Pro Se can indeed get subpoenas issued and here is the process:
Go to http://www.jud.ct.gov
go to General Forms
you will need to fill out JD CL 43 and JD CV 62
JD CL 43 = Supboena
JD CV 62= Application for issuance of supboena
After you have filled out the information
you will have to head down to the clerk's office
for New Haven it is located at 235 Church Street, New Haven
on the 2nd floor.
Once you are there they will review, and submit to a judge for approval.
Some are approved, others may not, you will have to wait til a decision.
They can either be mailed or available for pick up.
You will then be responsible to have a state marshal serve the person
in which you have had the subpoena issued. It should cost you approximately
45.00 for service.
The originals signed by state marshal have to be returned to the clerk's office.
But make sure to make copies for your self to have for proof.
Then the court will register the serve and will put you on the Short Calendar to
be heard!
I hope this helps.
Call the clerk's office for add'l info: New Haven is 203.503.6800
Thank you and hope you all have a great day!

Contempt Charges
Good Morning !
I wanted to inform you of a procedure which I have educated myself on and thought I would pass it on to all of my webviewers.
I have paid, as I am sure many of us have, a lot of money for Attorney representation over the past 4 years of my seperation and divorce. To the point where you just have had it with writing out those checks. Well I have finally learned how to file contempt on my own and file a pro se appearence. If one goes to www.jud.ct.gov you can download the forms necessary for Contempt, Pro Se Appearence and a Cover Sheet Facsimile for the court. (Fax# for New Haven Office of the Clerk is 203.503.6885).
Another interesting thing about contempt charges , it is FREE!! You simply fill out the form, as best you can, fax to the court number listed in your district and a few days later you will receive it in the mail with a list of state marshal's.
You then need to hire on of them to serve the other party. This was $43.50 for me. I called a local State Marshal in the town where my X Husband lived, so there was not much traveling for him!
Anyway, I have my first Contempt Charge, Pro Se hearing on September 24, 2008 and I will let you know how it goes! I thought this might be helpful for folks out there who know they have contempt charges but simply do not want to incur add'l costs. Life is expensive enough, and this is one way to get a result with out the extra money!
If you have specific questions feel free to contact me at jules@dipnight.com and I will gladly help!
Thanks, and hope you all have a great day!

School Begins
I can hear all the mom's in the area shouting from their roof tops!
Yes , school has begun. Isn't it wonderful. We can actually get something done around
our houses! I find September to be a great time of the year. It is so bitter sweet. I love
sleeping in during the summer, letting the kids play into the evening with no cares of homework
or an early morning rise. However, after those 2 months, as I have 2 children about 18 months apart, they start to turn. The reality of them being together for that time span in the same house, hotel rooms, traveling in car etc....seems to hit them..and the bickering begins! So with
that commencement approximately 1 to 2 weeks later, a breath of fresh air, they are back
in school separated by classrooms and enjoying their school friends. I on the other hand, get back
to running regularly, getting a routine together, and of course , cleaning and organizing the house!
So for all the mom's out there who spent there summers figuring out play dates, trips to the beach, fun things for the kids to do, days at the pool, BBQ's at night, and much much more.....hats off to you all for a great job done! And I know we can't believe we say this, but
aren't we all glad to be making LUNCHES once again! I wish you and your families the best school year!
Sincerely,
Jules

Welcome to DipNight: Where those in a 'relationship transition' find new friends
By Sandi Kahn Shelton, Register Staff
08/18/2008
GUILFORD — DipNight started — how else? — with a dip. It was, in fact, a Mexican dip that two newly divorced women shared one Friday night in 2004 when they got together with their kids to hang out. They'd both recently been left by their husbands and were devastated.
That little bowl of dip, made with layers of cream cheese, salsa and Monterrey Jack cheese, has since become the symbol and centerpiece of the new business created by one of those lonely moms, Jules Gaughran-Etes of Guilford.DipNight.com, she says, provides a place for divorced and widowed people to get together to find new friends and to get their social lives back on track. The first Friday night DipNights took place from 5-7 p.m. each week at Gaughran-Etes's house, and pretty soon, between 40 and 50 people were showing up, bringing food, wine and kids."Kids played in the pool, and we all mingled, and it was great fun," she says. Now, four years later, DipNight.com has been reborn as her business: a combination monthly meeting, educational forum, party, support group and networking opportunity. Since last September, Gaughran-Etes has been providing food, friendship and often guest speakers to people in "relationship transition" who come to her house on the third Thursday of each month."People who are going through the throes of divorce or a breakup, or people who have just been widowed, can just feel so lost," says Gaughan-Etes. "They don't want to go to bars, but they need somewhere to go where they can start to rebuild their social lives, where they don't feel like they've done something wrong, and where they can be accepted, and even get advice and education."She ought to know. Gaughran-Etes says that in the summer of 2004, she had what she calls the perfect life: a great husband, two children, a dream home, a family business and plenty of friends. "In a 90-day period, all that changed," she says. "My husband met someone else and left me. My parents were both diagnosed with cancer. My 4-year-old daughter had to have surgery for sleep apnea. By the time September came, everything had completely changed. If the old saying is true that what you survive makes you stronger, then I should be the Incredible Hulk at this point."Today, she's committed to reaching out to people who are in that same state of confusion she experienced. "In addition to providing a place where people can just get together and have fun, each month we also have a speaker who can offer assistance with some aspect of our lives."Topics include: exercise, nutrition, finances, children's adjustments, and real estate education. At the meeting coming up on Thursday, Gaughran-Etes says there will be a tarot card reader, coming by popular request. "In September, we'll get back to serious subjects," she says with a smile. "That's when we'll meet with a financial planner to talk about the best way to invest money."Over 75 people have signed up online to become members of DipNight.com. The cost is $49 for a six-month membership, or $99 for a year, and includes: monthly social gatherings, e-mail notifications of social events, access to a social network of friendships and professional services, a membership card with a tote bag and a bracelet. "We're a very positive group," says Gaughran-Etes. "We're not here to bash our exes or to stay stuck. The whole point of the group is to move forward, and to share with each other. Occasionally somebody cries, but we surround that person with support and help them find their way back to what's good in their lives."Eileen Jowett of Guilford has been coming to the meetings from the beginning, and she says they're lots of fun. "I'm happily married," she says, "but I was divorced 15 years ago, and I remember the pain of that. I come to the meetings to offer support and friendship to the women who are there, and I've made some great friends. Jules has created such a positive place and so much fun. It's incredible what she's created."DipNight.com's members are overwhelmingly female, but Gaughran-Etes says that men do occasionally join and have a good time."The first man who joined is now getting together with other men and planning to start his own support network for them," she says. She might even give him the recipe for the Mexican dip.Contact Sandi Kahn Shelton at sandishelton@comcast.net.

Wow, Time Flies
Well it is summer and let's face it, do any of us even know what day of the week it is!
My gosh. How different the time is in the summer. Longer days, kids out of school, vacations, I am amazed that i have not blogged in a long time! I apologize for that. I have had a busy busy summer. Selling homes, vacationing and taking care of my two children!
I wanted to share with you a wonderful place to visit! Montana! I know most of you would be saying "why." It is the most beautiful countryside. In July there are mountain caps with Snow. There is wildlife in many places. Yellowstone National Park is a gorgeous sight. Old Faithful, the geyser, blows almost every 20 minutes or so and is an amazing scene to witness. We stayed in Cameron Montana, which is on the Madison River. The Madison River is a fast moving body of water surrounded by valley's and mountains, extraordinaire! If you ever get the chance to visit, do so. If you want to ask me questions, email me at jules@dipnight.com An awesome trip! On a personal note, Doug thanks for the spontaneity and patience!

Mid Life Crisis?
Okay, is it not the best when you know your girls have got your back. I mean really, you walk into a restaurant and there is your boyfriend with a 22 year old? (btw he is 45) yup , nothing like that mid life crisis! Anyway, then he proceeds to walk up to you, introduce the two of you and buy you both a drink. Now ....you're thinking....are you for REAL? This isn't awkward at all! Meanwhile, he is like....i just met her, it's nothing....???? Yah...and with that...you are no longer my boyfriend, as the nothing takes off with you on the back of your Harley! MMMMM ....what they do not realize, however, is that when you do something like this to a good person...karma follows them. You see we all have "posse's" of girl friends. That man is now ousted from this group and if any of them run into him....watch out...he will get an earful! Never underestimate the power of group of girls!
As for relationships.....not sure if they are all cracked up to be what we think they are....but it is a process of going through many frogs til one is actually a prince.
Girls...a great time last night. Kris, you are the best and I know you are always there for me! Eileen, my god, the laughs, the lip gloss & ATM cards....where would we be with out our friendship. Liz, congrats on the condo...you are awesome! Doug....you can dance like no other!
Hope you all have a great day.

How To Get Your Support With Out it Costing You Money
Okay
We all dread the days of going to the 3rd floor of the new haven superior court.
What is even worse is the 350.00 and hour bill from the attorney there after.
And all to collect what was supposed to be sent to us per court order anyway
the day we got divorced.
Well, I have found a great resource, Support Services.
If you are not getting paid the support each week, this service is
free to all CT residents and they track monies paid and not paid
They will hold your ex spouse in contempt after a certain time frame
they will go after anything support wise, daycare, medical, support, alimony
etec. and the service is free to us.
It is basically their program to collect from the "deadbeats" of the world.
Phone number to contact them: 203.974.8258.
The process requires you to get a most current copy of your divorce decree
from the clerk's office.
Then calculating what is owed and signing off that it is true
Setting up an appointment with the above number to open your case.
After a time frame if no monies are collected, your case is handed to
support "enforcement."
This department is the one that can hold in contempt,
pull delinquent payor into court and in the end actually
hand off the arrest warrant for the deadbeat if they have not
paid .
I wanted to pass this on to all out there , as I realize how
expensive attorney fee's can get. And sometimes we just don't have the money.
The stated will track monies paid, they will direct deposit into your account, they will
hold contempt charges, they can intercept Tax Return checks, they are a powerful
resource.
If you want any further info, call the number or email me at jules@dipnight.com

Lenny's on a Monday
Okay, for any of you looking for a fun and educational time on a monday night.
I have just recently found out that Lenny's in Branford has a "Trivia" night on Mondays.
Bartenders, Jason and Patti, run this game. It starts a bit after 7:00 and goes approximately
1 to 1 1/2 hours. There are about 4-5 rounds of questions which you have to answer. You can be teamed up with others and you can talk amongst yourselves to figure out the answers. After all is said and done, the answers are revealed and correct responses get tallied and the winner is announced, to win the pool of money put into the pot for that night. It is a fun and brain tingling experience, which can be quite funny when you add in some cocktails. The food at lenny's is awesome and really worth a visit!
have a great day.

The Run
Good Morning
Well enjoy today and the sunshine, because starting tomorow til Saturday night
the rain will be with us
I guess to be positive, the flowers will bloom soon,
however, I am so ready for warm weather and SUN!!!
I ran the Veteran Race and finished top 15 , 26 minutes in total!
Funny thing, I see a friend of mine as I am warming up and walk over to chat
she tells me that she ran to the registration table from her home, was running the race
and then back home again....had to be a total of 10+ miles. I was sitting there contemplating how
i would be excited just to complete the course, and as I am talking to her, the Gun goes off, she is so in tune, becuase she's done this before, that off she goes and it took me about 10 seconds to realize the race had started! Well, with that I ran my best, and was excited to have completed my first official running race! I realize that it is not about beating others, but your own personal goal. Running for completion, time, or just the experience, is different for each person. There were several NEWBIES there and I wished them luck! They all finished and it was a great experience. So lesson to be learned here: try something new, try it for yourself, it only makes you feel good that you completed yet one more accomplishment in life.
Thought for the day:
"I release the rut of regret and the fear of tomorrow to make way for forgiveness, pleasure, beauty, and hope. I am empowered by my conscience and my gift is forgiveness!"
May you all have a wonderful Thursday!
Jules
Malone's on St Patty's Day
Good Morning girls!
How many of us are waking up this morning with a little touch of the
"green beer flu?"
So i have a funny story to tell.
There I am having a drink with my friend Eileen, when I look out into the
crowd and notice was seems to be a cutie patootie!
I keep my eye on him for the evening, as he returns the glances, then i decide
to let Eileen in on my find, and I point out this guy. She bursts out laughing and tells
me he is the SON of one of our friends! OKAY. Now really.
I suck at this age thing, but really, can I be this off?
So he walks over and i have to say he is at least over 23! ladies, don't laugh.....
He was cute, talkative and a great smile............
so there is the question, is it too young?
so many of the woman out there are dating young now ?
right?
any feedback on the topic? Email me at jules@dipnight.com
i am curious as to what you all think
so the funny part of the story, after Eileen had a 2nd glass of wine
and the guy is chatting with us, don't you think she tells him the story.......
God What are friends for...........we laughed about it til we cried.!
Have a great day!
And remember , age is only a symbol of how old we FEEL!

The Hummer.....................
Okay,
Why is it that woman and men break up,
the woman usually thinks about the relationship
what went wrong, how it could be a learning experience.
We will usually get our hair done, or our nails, go out with
our friends and basically just support our new life with out
that person by finding comfort in our friends and being alone
for a litttle while.
Why is it that Men usually go out and do something so incredibly
egotistical? Like buy a hummer?
Then after not speaking to you for a week, send you a picture of it
on your cell phone along with 10 other people (of course other girls he
knows) and somehow they think we CARE?
Or are we supposed to be so impressed that we run back to them?
Boy, I just plain do not get it.
Any ideas? Analzye this...........i say. Your thoughts can be sent
to me at jules@dipnight.com
Otherthan that...............its hump day! so enjoy this Wednesday!

The More Frogs I kiss , The More I Like My Dog!
Okay girls,
Who likes Carrie Underwood, as a singer?
Well I was fortunate enough to see her in Concert a week or so ago.
(BTW if you ever go to the Bridgeport Arena, there is an excellent restaurant called Roberto's just a couple blocks away, which is FAB!)
Okay, anyway, I had been listening to her while I run on the treadmill and realized that I fell in love with this one song, so I really listened to the lyrics and found that she was basically saying.....she gives any guy a chance, but the more "frogs she kisses, the more she loves her dog!"
Well, I just plain have to laugh at that.
Can't we all just relate. Finding the perfect man for you , is not always easy.
Then add having been married, having children , getting divorced and now dating in your mid 30S.
My Lord, I thought dating in the 20's was tough, now I add, your children, his children, both the x spouses, work, after school activities, maintaining houses, families, friends ..............ugh. How confusing it all gets. At the end of day..........not sure if it is worth it, or where does one find the time.
I have actually realized that having been married, having had my children, having shared a life with someone who limited me and my opportunities, I am going to embrace the next few years of my life to enjoy being independent, raising my children and developing a career for myself. If I kiss that frog and he is the prince, well then........he will be my partner in life to walk side by side, not in front of or behind me!
What I have learned in the past several years........... never settle, life is too short!
Be Strong and enjoy life, everything good comes in time.

Food, Friends and Botox
Well I think I am starting a new trend.
I have a great friend, Eileen, who asked me if I would host a party
for botox.? What the heck? and How funny is that. So I created the invite
with this sexy mama picture (cartoon) with glass of wine in hand and
labeled the invite "Wine, Food, and Botox."
What a concept. Just think ladies, enjoying your friends, having some apps and
at the same time getting botox injections! Wow , so much for the candle, basket and
cookware home parties, we are entering into the next generation!
So with that Botox also comes the option of Teeth Whitening and Fillers!
So next time you are in the mood to entertain at home........try something new like a
Botox party and in the word of Emeril.........."Kick it Up a Notch!"
Have a great day !

Everything Looks Better In The Morning!
Good morning..............
Well just to fill you in on my exciting sunday night.
You know how you just want one night to relax before the craziness of schedules for the week begin well, so do I......but no luck last night.
Okay, so I finally break down and buy that KING size bed I always wanted (so that my children and I can fit in one bed when reading bedtime stories and watching movies.....) so the movers come, set it up and boy does it look great.
Well the children had friends over yesterday and I heard this loud thumping noise, to my surprise , they are trying out the "trampoline" ...yup that would be my new bed. I put a stop to that and off they went.
I went to get into bed last night and something was not right...a bit of a sag was there.
So underneath with a flash light i proceed to look................yup it 's official they knocked all the supports out of the bottom!
Well....who does one call? Who else, but DAD!!!!!
Dad's fix everything. So there he was at 9:00 with me and the two kids , a broom handle, a mattress that weighs 1000 lbs & a flashlight. Well needless to say after all the drama, all is fine. And I got a great night sleep!
So lesson here.........don't let you kids jump on your bed, and always have your DAD on Speed Dial!
Have great monday!!!!

The Bounced Check
Okay Dipsters...............
I found some stuff out after hearing about a friend of mine who's support check bounced after already being a couple weeks late.
My friend had no desires to head back into the courtroom arena and asked me if I knew what to do. Well, after a few calls to some contacts I have found out the following information and thought I would pass it on to my readers:
1. Make a copy of any check prior to depositing. This will allow you to reference check #, date written, account number and routing number
2. Once the check has been deposited and has bounced....
3. You then need to create a letter with the facts 1. you received this check #, amount, drawn on this account name on this date. Then advise that check bounced and that the person has 8 days to make good on the check or you will begin prosecution proceedings. (you have to have this part in the letter.)
4. You need to send this letter certified mail with confirmation of delivery (about 3.00)
5. Then you wait.
6. On the 8th day if no money has been recieved and the check then made "good."
7. You head to your local police office for a "bad check packet."
8. You fill out the information and a warrant will be issued for that person's arrest.
It is pretty amazing that we have this much power behind us for people that bounce checks and we do not even have to involve an attorney, court time, costs, etc.
I thought this would be helpful information for anyone who has suffered from this problem before.
If you have any further thoughts, ideas or questions, feel free to email me at jules@dipnight.com
Otherwise...........Have a great day!

Positive Thinking
Good Morning !
It is bright and sunny out and looks to be a great day.
I have recently purchased "The Secret's Gratitude" journal.
I do not know if any of you have seen the movie, or read the book
but it is all about Positive Thinking and being grateful for what you
have in this world and positivie thinking about what you will have.
The Gratitude journal can be purcashed for @ 13.95 at Walmart.
It is simple, just jot down daily the things you are grateful for on one
page and the other, those things you are grateful for in the future.
The idea behind it is to have you start thinking about what good
you have in your life and all the good that is still to come.
So even when you are down and out, or having a bad day,
realize, things happen for a reason and something good will come out of it
you may not see it at first. But give it time!
I have started this journal and am going to try it. I will keep you updated
on whether or not I really enjoy it , if I feel it is working, etc.
If any of you have a great book you would like to recommend to my readers
please feel free to email me at jules@dipnight.com
I hope you all have a GREAT tuesday!

Rainy Day
Okay, so we wake up and the sky is grey, we are wanting so desperately to pull the covers over our heads and go back to sleep, but we then realize it is Monday and we have to work.......UGH!
Well , it could be worse, you could be waking up to the skylights in your house leaking, a sale that you thought was going to happen fall through and an X husband that has not paid you money he owes you! Well...........now that 's a reason to pull those covers over one's head!
But we are stronger than that.......right.
Pull your self up by the boot straps, call a friend for some support and get ready to face the world. If there is one thing I have learned, you never know what is going to happen next! You may hit lotto today, or find the perfect love, or have your child do something that you hoped you never missed, like walk for the first time!
Life is meant to be lived, the good the bad, and the ugly..........so when you are waking up remember a couple things
1. Someone else has it worse than you
2. It is another day you are breathing and walking (that's a good thing)
3. It is a chance to make something wrong , RIGHT, or do something that get's you that much closer to your dream!
4.Life is meant to be LIVED ..... a rollercoaster ride it may be, but if you don't get in the car......you'll never experience the thrill!
Enjoy Today!

A Night At Leon's
I just need to tell you all about a restaurant in New Haven which opened on Dec 31, 2008!
It is called Leon's. You may know the name, as it was a local restaurant for years and closed down sometime ago. It is re opened in the location of the "Rusty Scupper!" The locale is fantastic. It over looks the waters of New Haven Harbour. The restaurant has been remodeled, the new bar area is larger and last night they had a wonder jazz band playing. But make reservations, as they are very very busy!
Sue and I walked into the crowded bar just as two people were getting up and gave us their seats. It could not have been better timing. Then we ordered 2 drinks, and the guy that was getting up was asking for his tab, funny thing, our drinks were put on his tab and he just laughed and said, "I got them for these two beautiful woman." The night started out great!
Steve met up with us later we had dinner , the lobster cream sauce over pasta is fantastic.
Sue...stay strong. You are awesome.
Ran into Jahala, it was great to see you......enjoy your travels!
Eileen...... you were missed, but we will do it again!
Amy........... we missed your smiling face behind the bar!
For a great evening of fun and food, try Leon's!
Have a great day..........Jules

Well all, it is day one of my blog and wow is this exciting!
Thanks to my cousins in Oklahoma....I am on my way to completing my website and my desire to communicate with many!
My website is a supporting place for woman or men going through a transitional relationship change. About 3 years ago my husband walked out on me and my 2 children, while my mother and father were facing a life battle with Cancer. I felt as if I was hit by a freight train. But 3 years of trying to figure it all out has lead me to creating "dipnight.com" I have helped woman and men in my community re-build their lives by providing a network of supporting people whom I call "friends." Although you may not feel as if you have any at one point in your life or another, when you enter into my website and share a "dipnight" with us....you are sure to gain friends and feel accepted. I look forward to posting various experiences, challenges, successes, friendships and just plain funny stories on this blog. So stay tune and keep up with the life of "Jules!"
