Okay Dipsters...............
I found some stuff out after hearing about a friend of mine who's support check bounced after already being a couple weeks late.
My friend had no desires to head back into the courtroom arena and asked me if I knew what to do. Well, after a few calls to some contacts I have found out the following information and thought I would pass it on to my readers:
1. Make a copy of any check prior to depositing. This will allow you to reference check #, date written, account number and routing number
2. Once the check has been deposited and has bounced....
3. You then need to create a letter with the facts 1. you received this check #, amount, drawn on this account name on this date. Then advise that check bounced and that the person has 8 days to make good on the check or you will begin prosecution proceedings. (you have to have this part in the letter.)
4. You need to send this letter certified mail with confirmation of delivery (about 3.00)
5. Then you wait.
6. On the 8th day if no money has been recieved and the check then made "good."
7. You head to your local police office for a "bad check packet."
8. You fill out the information and a warrant will be issued for that person's arrest.
It is pretty amazing that we have this much power behind us for people that bounce checks and we do not even have to involve an attorney, court time, costs, etc.
I thought this would be helpful information for anyone who has suffered from this problem before.
If you have any further thoughts, ideas or questions, feel free to email me at jules@dipnight.com
Otherwise...........Have a great day!
